Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father was absent from her family and she was taken care of by her mother, grandma and godparents. She suffered from an anxiety disorder that was rooted in the word association when she was a teenager. Ford began to become interested in acting during her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she would not be a good fit there. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot at the third time made an application and secured acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring on Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut when she appeared as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate was also a regular performer as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
